The Chess Club

The Stratford chess club was formed in the year 1881, it all started with a meeting of some gentlemen at he town hall. They were very much interested in starting a chess club for Stratford-upon-Avon. Thus they formed this one of the oldest chess clubs in this part of the world.

With regard to some unfortunate incident, the club lost its shine till 1960. But the club was reformed in the year 1962, since then it hasn’t turned back. It is a great habitat for chess lovers and chess enthusiasts. They have members of different ages and different skill levels so it doesn’t matter whether one is a beginner or a professional.

Like other chess clubs members can take part in the weekly training program or can participate in the club’s own domestic competitions which is strictly for its own members. And also willing members who have the required ability can take part in inter-club tournaments in which they can face players from other clubs. They can take part in those competitions by representing any one of the club’s team.

Stratford chess club itself organizes an inter-club tournament in which different accredited clubs can send their teams. It is called the Leamington League. The main aim of this league is to promote enthusiasm in chess the regions surrounding the district and to organize individual championship.

They also conduct summer tournaments exclusively for their own members. The aim of the tournament is to improve the ability of its members and to organize some fun games.
