Nelson Chess club is renamed as Pendle Chess Club. This is located at the Nelson Cricket Club as they have weekly meetings there only. And this club is working at the upstairs and does not have any elevators so old peoples who cannot able to climb upstairs are advised to keep out. The history of this club was explained in two parts as before world war and after world war. It is one of the oldest clubs in UK and it was formerly known as Colne club which was found in 1921.
They organize many tournaments and also participate in leagues around their province. They organize some tournaments during the winter. This is the only club that has free membership around their region Pendle and Burnley. As the other club Skipton chess club was at the closing stage now this is the only club which has more active members in their region.
The club’s members organize a tournament for young children in the school premises and find the young talent and train them. This tournament is popularly known as Mayor of Pendles chess and which is held yearly during the spring season.
There is also another championship introduced by the Mayor of Pendle which is for all peoples around that region and it is played on an all- play- all basis and this championship will last for nearly seven months. This tournament is held in two divisions as the number of entries exceeded.
There were also four championships which held during the year 1987-1991.
