West London chess club is known for its rich history and tradition in United Kingdom. It was inaugurated in the year 1893 by a small group of chess lovers in West London. It comprises of players of different abilities, irrespective of age and skill. Depending on their skill level members can play in tournaments like London chess league and in Middlesex chess league representing their club’s first teams. They also have second teams for helping members who are beginners.
Members can also participate in friendly or Blitz games which are organized in-house for polishing their skills, before participating in higher level tournaments. These are organized on every Wednesday for the benefit of the members.
There is a separate division to teach the nuances of the game to kids and beginners. It is called ‘The Junior’s club’. Coaching is given for its members on every Saturday by Meri Lyell, she is a woman FIDE master and an ECF accredited coach.
This year the West London chess club is organizing a chess workshop for aspiring chess lovers.
The main aim of this workshop is to provide some useful knowledge about chess to its members and also for other non-members. The session is conducted by Mark Lyell. After this workshop they are also conducting a simultaneous exhibition match against international Grand Master Alexander Cherniaev.
Last year has been a very successful year for the club’s members.
Mark Lyell won the Henderson cup, Raghu Kamath won the Sir George Thomas cup, for best London League performance, Richard Matzko won the Spires trophy.

The Stratford chess club was formed in the year 1881, it all started with a meeting of some gentlemen at he town hall. They were very much interested in starting a chess club for Stratford-upon-Avon. Thus they formed this one of the oldest chess clubs in this part of the world.
With regard to some unfortunate incident, the club lost its shine till 1960. But the club was reformed in the year 1962, since then it hasn’t turned back. It is a great habitat for chess lovers and chess enthusiasts. They have members of different ages and different skill levels so it doesn’t matter whether one is a beginner or a professional.
Like other chess clubs members can take part in the weekly training program or can participate in the club’s own domestic competitions which is strictly for its own members. And also willing members who have the required ability can take part in inter-club tournaments in which they can face players from other clubs. They can take part in those competitions by representing any one of the club’s team.
Stratford chess club itself organizes an inter-club tournament in which different accredited clubs can send their teams. It is called the Leamington League. The main aim of this league is to promote enthusiasm in chess the regions surrounding the district and to organize individual championship.
They also conduct summer tournaments exclusively for their own members. The aim of the tournament is to improve the ability of its members and to organize some fun games.

Nelson Chess club is renamed as Pendle Chess Club. This is located at the Nelson Cricket Club as they have weekly meetings there only. And this club is working at the upstairs and does not have any elevators so old peoples who cannot able to climb upstairs are advised to keep out. The history of this club was explained in two parts as before world war and after world war. It is one of the oldest clubs in UK and it was formerly known as Colne club which was found in 1921.
They organize many tournaments and also participate in leagues around their province. They organize some tournaments during the winter. This is the only club that has free membership around their region Pendle and Burnley. As the other club Skipton chess club was at the closing stage now this is the only club which has more active members in their region.
The club’s members organize a tournament for young children in the school premises and find the young talent and train them. This tournament is popularly known as Mayor of Pendles chess and which is held yearly during the spring season.
There is also another championship introduced by the Mayor of Pendle which is for all peoples around that region and it is played on an all- play- all basis and this championship will last for nearly seven months. This tournament is held in two divisions as the number of entries exceeded.
There were also four championships which held during the year 1987-1991.

Dulwich chess club is a very recently formed chess club in the United Kingdom. It is located in East London. Its former name is Dulwich plough. According to the club authorities, it is a very fast growing chess club. At present it has about thirty members. They range from amateurs to professionals. The club members call their club as the friendliest chess club.
One can improve their game of chess by playing a variety of games, and participating in lots of tournaments and in competitions. One can play league chess, casual chess and also can participate in in-house tournaments, which are organized to hone one’s skills in preparing for different strategies and tactics.
The Dulwich chess club organizes many tournaments, one among them is “The Third Gerald Duncumb Memorial open”. Five to six rounds are played with a maximum time period of twenty minutes for each game. The winner of this tournament would receive seventy pounds and the Gerald Duncumb trophy. The best placed player who is graded below 130 BCF receives a cash prize if 30 pounds. Any one can participate in this tournament, but they should be either a member of Dulwich chess club or any certified member of any other club.
Dulwich chess club also participates in competitions like the London chess league, Middlesex chess league, and Surrey chess league. Though they haven’t won any trophies this year, the club authorities are confident in putting up a better show in the upcoming seasons.

This club is associated with chess and it is situated in Wales. It conducts many programs for juniors as well as seniors. They are conducting tournaments each year and they are associated with Cardiff YMCA chess club. It participates in tournaments and in leagues with their teams. It has nine teams and each participate in their corresponding Division matches.
They have bagged many titles during the past. They also organize summer programs especially for juniors. They are simul / Tandem, 10 min, Random Back Rank, 5 min, 15 min Swiss, Time consultation, Theme, Time Handicap and it goes on. By conducting these kinds of special programs they become very popular in Wales and it has many young bloods in their club.
They also arrange for some Simul programs which helps many youngsters to know about the game and they can gain knowledge from the experienced people and can apply that knowledge while playing. In the past GM Yasser Seirawan of USA was at the Cardiff and gave brief description about his chess carrier and played with 37 players in that he won against 31 and drew against all others.
This club’s top team has participated in European club Team Championship for many times. The League season starts during the September and lasts till the end of April. They also organize summer programs as already mentioned and on Tuesdays everyone is allowed including visitors and mostly juniors will take participate in it as on Wednesday they have a meeting for seniors. All these meetings will take place between 7 pm to 10.30 pm.

This club was formed during 1968 and it progressed well from starting and bagged many titles and championships as it joined the East Glamorgan Chess League. This club has many chess teams and they played in the First division from 1968-1995 and also bagged eight chess league titles during the year 1975-1976 and 1991 and 1992. Then they suffered a back drop in their league table position by losing their First Division spot and went down to Second Division. But the senior players will fight back and regain their First Division Spot by getting championship in Second Division. These kinds of losing the First Division standings and bouncing back occurred recently in 2007 and also it happened in 1995 and 2001. They are not only champions with Bridgend A team but also with their Bridgend B, C and D.
They also arrange some kind of exhibition for the players in the club with some great players. In 1993 English Grandmaster Murray Chandler visited the club and gave tips to players and also IM Andrew Martin visited the club during the past. All these kind of activities thrills the players and give some enthusiasm to them to shine well.
Bridgend Chess Club conducts many tournaments for juniors and by that it identifies young talents and trains them well to reach higher level. Like above said they are conducting Bridgend junior Rapidplay in search of young talents. They also conduct tournaments for all such as Bridgend Club Championship.
They also conduct weekly meeting on Thursday at 7 pm. In that they discuss about their standings and their competitions and get feedbacks from everyone to correct it in the future.

Battersea chess club is one of the oldest chess clubs and it was formed in 1885. They have many teams each participate in league matches of different Division. Also in London League and surrey League they participate and in that they have bagged many championships. Also for less experienced peoples such as new comers they train them and allow them to participate in Croydon League where they can get good knowledge about the game and experience. Once experienced they are allowed to participate in the First, Second Division Leagues.
This year, Battersea chess club bagged the championship in London League. They triumphed, because of their experienced players and also due to some guidance given by experts.
They will also conduct some tournaments and internal club championships such as rapid play, blitz tournament, gambit and some other casual games.
This Blitz tournament is conducted as 5 minute Blitz tournament where the opponent skills are tested and from all-play-all basis of ten rounds the winner is selected. In these tournaments the rules are framed as that of international chess competition and all the players are tested at its maximum level. Also they conduct one internal championship such as club championship and one tournament called Borrow Tournament.
Every Monday evening they will meet at “Balham Bows Club” pub in Ramsen Road between 7.30pm to 10.30 pm. All players who are interested to join and play chess are always welcomed and by joining they can develop their game and can reach higher levels easily.

Barry Chess club is the one which conducts the famous league East Glamorgan Chess League which is the very popular league in their province.
All people who are interested to play chess are always welcomed by the club and they can participate in friendly games and also allowed to participate in club’s activities and any activities associated with East Glamorgan Chess association. Here all the equipments are provided by them and they won’t charge anything for it. Only if the player wants to participate in league and trophy matches they have to register in the East Glamorgan Chess Association and Welsh Chess Union and some amount for club’s improvement which can be payable at the course of their matches and practice.
There are only two kind of subscription fees such as for adults £25 and for junior members it is £15. This club will provide the players coaches only if they are in need because playing against many experienced players itself will be a great training and there is no need for trainee. They won’t compel anyone to become a member.
Every Wednesday by 7.30 Pm they will have a meeting with club’s head and along with players and coaches.

Athenaeum chess club is an UK based chess club. It was inaugurated in the year 1873. This club also has a reputation of being the oldest club in United Kingdom which is still functioning well. It is located in Covent Garden which is based in central London. At present it comprises of forty members. Members are from various categories ranging from professionals to amateurs.
They participate and compete in various competitions which are conducted in and around London. These competitions include the London league, the Middlesex league. They also participate in various Banks and Insurance competitions. They also conduct in-house competitions for their members. Those competitions are conducted twice per week especially on Mondays and on Wednesdays. Usually these in-house competitions start around 6.45 pm on the scheduled day.
Athenaeum chess club actively participates in the prestigious London League. Athenaeum chess club sends four teams to participate in the London League. Division 1 comprises of the first and second team. The remaining two teams would participate in Division 4.
The playing rate is classified as follows, for home matches the game has to cease with 36 moves which must be completed within 90 minutes, further a 15 minute quick play finish is provided. For away games the game has to end with the maximum of 30 moves completed within 75 minutes, further a 15 minute quick play finish is provided. In the Middlesex league Athenaeum chess club plays two teams in second Division. Similar amount of rate of play is regulated for this league also.

Aberdare chess club was formed before twenty years and it was developed in a tie-up with Aberdare Rugby club. It has conducted many tournaments. It started its first club championship tournament in the year 2005. This club participates in many club championships, tournaments and in leagues namely East Glamorgan Leagues, Welsh Cup Tournament. They will have Aberdare festival during that time it will conduct outdoor tournament. The players who are winners in the club championship are allowed to participate in Leagues and they have won many titles to the club.
They also train peoples for getting the local championship in the First Division League which was captured in the past by some other clubs. They train mostly young and new bloods of the club for capturing the title. By capturing all these titles they can become the leading club in their province. Even though many young peoples are joining in the club it is continuing many peoples are moving away from the club hence they decided to participate in the local East Glamorgan League with only one team.
All new young enthusiastic players are always welcomed by the club and they will provide efficient training and allows them to participate in local chess tournaments and it they shine in that they are promoted to participate in Leagues and some out door tournaments.
Every Wednesday they will meet at 7.30Pm and discuss about their proceedings with the coaches and players to know their standings in the league table and what improvements to be taken to reach the first spot in the table.
